Hosting and Server Logs #

This blog is a static website. When you open a page, the hosting server stores standard access logs. These contain your IP address, date and time, the requested page, the referrer and your browser's user agent. The logs are needed to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis is Art. 6 (1) f GDPR (legitimate interest in a stable and secure website). Logs are deleted after a short retention period.

No Cookies, No Tracking #

This blog sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking. Your choice of colour theme (Auto, Light, Dark) is saved in your browser's local storage under the key theme. It never leaves your device. You can delete it at any time in your browser settings.

Search #

The site search runs fully in your browser. The search index is part of this website. No search queries are sent to third parties.

Comments #

Blog posts have an optional comment section provided by EchoThread, operated by VectraSEO LLC, Pennsylvania, USA.

The comments are not loaded automatically. Only when you click "Load comments" does your browser connect to EchoThread's servers (cdn.echothread.io, api.echothread.io). From that point EchoThread receives your IP address and browser user agent. If you sign in and post a comment, EchoThread also processes your email address, display name, avatar from the sign in provider (for example Google, GitHub, X, Facebook or Discord), your comment text, and the IP address and user agent of the submission. If GIFs are used, your browser also loads content from the GIF service KLIPY.

EchoThread stores sign in data in local storage on its own domain. It sets no cookies.

Data is hosted on Amazon Web Services in the US (N. Virginia). The transfer to the US is based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.

Legal basis is your consent according to Art. 6 (1) a GDPR, given by clicking "Load comments". You can withdraw it at any time by not loading comments again.

The comment system is not under my control. EchoThread runs it and is responsible for the account and personal data you give them. I can only moderate and delete single comments in the EchoThread admin interface. I have no access to your account, your email address or other sign in data. If you want your account or data deleted, contact EchoThread directly with the account you registered.

Your Rights #

You have the right to access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, data portability and objection under Art. 15 to 21 GDPR. You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Rheinland-Pfalz.
